Research & Practice

I specialize in couples and trauma therapy and have been trained in multiple models for each area. While most people see me specifically for couples or trauma therapy, many come with symptoms of anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, parenting struggles, sexual problems, life transitions, and so on. I believe those symptoms are highly impacted by our relationships and negative life experiences. Although when healed, symptoms either go away or are minimized and easy to handle. Many therapists focus on coping with those symptoms which is important. However, I believe lasting changes come from healing the roots of our symptoms, which healing and connection are the purposes behind couples and trauma work.

Research shows that the therapist-client relationship is vital for positive therapy outcomes, so you need to make sure you like your therapist. My clients enjoy my real and authentic style in therapy. Rather than feeling stiff and impersonal, I’ve found a great balance between being understanding and empathetic along with fun and charismatic. I’m also extremely collaborative in therapy meaning I prioritize and frequently get your feedback throughout the therapy process.

I believe you know yourself better than I do, so I trust your instinct and see our work together as a team effort. Additionally, my style focuses on helping clients have new experiences with themselves and others in therapy. I believe people learn best by doing rather than simply talking, so while therapy certainly includes talking, my clients do things differently during and between sessions.

We often take much longer than we should to get support, so I am glad you are looking into therapy! Change isn’t easy, but I believe in the therapy process and have both experienced and witnessed incredible healing through this work. I absolutely love my job and feel honored to witness and help guide others through their deepest problems towards feeling whole and joy. If you feel like I might be a good fit for you, please reach out for a free consultation!

On a more personal note…

I married the most wonderful (and beautiful and fun) woman I know in 2017. Together, we have 3 kids (a boy and two girls) who are honestly just amazing and make us look like great parents. My family is my most prized possession and the incredible relationships we’ve created have been the best benefit of being a therapist. We are a fun family and we like to go on adventures, hangout with friends, or hunker down and enjoy time together.

Many people are curious why therapists become therapists. For me, navigating complex relationships and mental health has been constant during my life. Growing up I experienced 3 divorces and I have almost too many step and half siblings to count. As a result, my own family and helping others experience personal and relational health is my passion.
