Sophie Norton

Hi! I’m Sophie Norton. I have openings for clients looking for couples and relational counseling or individual therapy online in Utah.

Education & Training

I earned my master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Utah State University, where I was mentored by incredible clinicians and researchers. Before that, I completed my bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Social Work (a field inspired by my vibrant, people-loving mother). Throughout my education, I've always been drawn to what truly impacts relationships and have been amazed by the power of kindness within them.

I continually seek new knowledge to provide the best care for my clients. Currently, I am professionally trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a rapid eye movement therapy for trauma treatment, and am Gottman Level 1 & 2 certified for couples counseling.

Experience

As a clinician, I've found a passion for supporting people through grief, no matter its source. Life will always present difficult phases, and I want to help my clients feel supported as they navigate their hardest moments.

I have significant experience with parent-child relationships, balancing individual and family work to create strong, healthy connections. I specialize in family estrangement and reconciliation, focusing on ways to heal.

My other areas of specialization include trauma, OCD, caregiving, couples counseling, spirituality, and depression/anxiety. I believe therapy is most effective when we can involve key relationships in sessions.

I believe everyone desires to feel a sense of belonging, importance, and the power to impact others. In therapy, I use kindness to foster belonging, reinforce a sense of self-worth, and empower my clients to transform their lives.

On a more personal note…

I genuinely love being a therapist. I consider myself a soft person—sensitive and attentive to connection. I pursued this career because I learned that no family or relationship is perfect, but I truly believe that individuals, couples, and families willing to try their best have the power to change the world, even if it's just the world around them. My faith has taught me to rejoice with those rejoicing and grieve with those who are suffering, as those connections hold the most meaning and love.

My world is happiest when I can get outside a little each day. I enjoy walking at a swift pace, hiking for incredible views, and biking so the wind can blow on my face. I find joy playing sports with my husband and friends when I can, and I truly appreciate experiencing other people's talents—whether at shows, performances, or through delicious food. Good people make the world a wonderful place, and I feel very lucky to know so many of them.
