Education

Even before I knew I wanted to be a therapist, I knew that I loved people and their individual stories. As an undergraduate of Latin American Studies at BYU, I learned to see people and their intimate relationships through a multifaceted, intergenerational lens, and spent time immersed in other cultures. During this time, I also became PREP certified and taught evidence-based relationship courses to undergraduate students and parents. My love of people and teaching led me to pursue a degree in therapy. I have a master’s degree from BYU’s Marriage and Family Therapy program, and I have associate licensure to practice in Washington.

Experience

I love working with individuals, families, pre-marital/ newlywed couples, and couples who experience high levels of disconnection or conflict. My experience includes working with anxiety, depression, sexual challenges, ADHD, ODD, trauma, and grief. My approach with clients includes helping clients recognize and validate their own and others' thoughts and emotions as well as strengthening feelings of trust, safety, and belonging in close relationships. Because I believe that we all live and are affected by the relationships around us, I strive to treat mental health issues in a relational context. I feel especially committed to helping parents feel empowered to show up for and support their children, as this relationship is of paramount developmental importance. I hope to offer all of the people who choose to work with me both curiosity and empathy about what parts of their story are most important to them.

Research & Writing

I hope to offer my clients curiosity and empathy about the parts of their story that are most important to them. My research experience has centered on the impact of culture on lived experience, especially in therapy. As I have studied how race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and other intersections affect mental health, my sensitivity to and advocacy for marginalized groups has increased.

I have taught in various capacities, and one of my favorite parts of teaching is being able to help others learn new skills and ways of seeing their challenges. My teaching experience has  ranged from community parenting workshops in English and Spanish to semester-long classes about parent-child relationships, sexuality, body safety, child temperament, and "discipline" (aka teaching).

On a more personal note…

Going to therapy on my own as a young adult was a deeply meaningful step in my healing journey. As I explored how my past connected to my present, I found new freedom in unearthing the "mystery" behind my emotion and learning how to use self-awareness to enhance how I connect with others. Becoming a therapist soon became my clear goal as I felt that my personality, passions, and desire to be with people in their pain could culminate meaningfully in this profession. I hope that I will be able to assist my clients achieve emotional health and wellness through a caring, authentic therapeutic relationship..

On a more personal note…I am through and through a Southern girl! I grew up in Georgia and I love tall green trees, peaches, and warm, wet asphalt in a rainstorm. I consider nature one of the master teachers of centeredness and grounding. I served an 18 month LDS mission in Washington State in 2015, attended BYU for my undergraduate and Master’s degrees, and I now live with my best friend and husband, Hayden. We love to eat food, play boardgames, and enjoy a good show of Avatar the Last Airbender together. We welcomed our first baby this year and look forward to a wealth of adventures in this new chapter of our lives!
